An Orison For Protection From The Ungodly

In the Name of the Father + and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Lord have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy.

V. Our help + is in the Name of the Lord;
R. Who hath made heaven and earth.

Responsory based on Psalm 140 (139)

V. Rescue me, O Lord, from evildoers; protect me from the violent, who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.
R. Rescue me, O Lord, from evildoers.

V. They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips.
R. Rescue me, O Lord, from evildoers.

V. Keep me safe, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.
R. Keep me safe, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked.

V. The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.
R. Keep me safe, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked.

V. I say to the Lord, “You are my God.” Hear, O Lord, my cry for mercy. Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.
R. Hear, O Lord, my cry for mercy.

V. Do not grant the wicked their desires, Lord; do not let their plans succeed.
R. Hear, O Lord, my cry for mercy.

V. Those who surround me proudly rear their heads; may the mischief of their lips engulf them.
R. Hear, O Lord, my cry for mercy.

V. May burning coals fall on them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise. May slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down the violent.
R. Hear, O Lord, my cry for mercy.

V. I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.
R. Surely the righteous will praise Thy name, and the upright will live in Thy presence.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God: pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Collect

Heavenly Father, I am surrounded on all sides by ravenous wolves eager to devour me. I am Thine, O God; I belong to Thee. I am Thy child, O Lord. Take me into Thy loving embrace and comfort me. Rescue me from the hands of the wicked, and grant unto me Thy protection. Assassins aim their arrows at my heart and reputation; Thou art my defence, most merciful Father. Pacify the mob whose calumny plagues me day and night. Sendest Thou Thy mighty seraph Michael and his company of blessed warriors to bolster my guardian angel. O omnipotent and glorious God, vouchsafe to grant me Thy grace to perfect Thy love in me for my enemies. Help me to persuade the ungodly to abandon their malice. Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do. For the sake of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Hymn Verse

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given;
The Son and Him Who reigns with Them in highest Heaven;
The one eternal God, whom earth and Heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

In the Name of the Father + and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

JAMES 4: 13-17

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and get gain”; whereas you do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and we shall do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

It is amazing how many people think that they can answer an argument by attributing bad motives to those who disagree with them. Using this kind of reasoning, you can believe or not believe anything about anything, without having to bother to deal with facts or logic.
