A Prayer To Confound The Wicked

Image
O Almighty and all-wise God, known to Thee are our communities beset by those whose heinous actions harm the innocent and the sick. We earnestly beseech Thee, our Heavenly Father, to strengthen the virtuous, confound the wicked, and to assist us, by Thy grace, in affirming and protecting those in most need of Thy boundless mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

A Prayer For Those Who Are In Distress

Image
O Almighty and eternal God, beholden are the many who dwell in distress, known unto Thee, who dost struggle each day to meet their basic needs or who endure injustice at the hands of wicked men. O Loving Father, we beseech Thee, aid us in our prayers and in our labors for truth and virtue, that those beset by the vile deeds of men may be liberated to partake in life's bounteous blessings and to sustain themselves; this we implore through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Head-scratcher: Anti-authoritarian Programs Produce... Authoritarianism?

Image
DEI content may not only increase the hostile attribution bias but converges with outcomes produced by authoritarian traits themselves. NCRI A recent study published under the auspices of the Rutgers University Social Perception Lab evaluates equity, diversity and inclusivity programs (EDI or DEI).  The study found that decent people, "as a result of these programs, have experienced undue duress, social ostracization, or even termination of employment." The research team that compiled the data is not asking whether or not DEI programs produce a hostile attribution bias.  They are stating the fact that such programs can and often times do produce and increase a hostile attribution bias. - - - INSTRUCTING ANIMOSITY HOW DEI PEDAGOGY PRODUCES THE HOSTILE ATTRIBUTION BIAS NCRI | Rutgers University Social Perception Lab https://www.openread.academy/en/paper/reading?corpusId=513675482 Equity Extremists: How Anti-Oppressive Narratives Converge with Authoritarian Intolerance (p.1...

The Catholic Faith Or Something Else?

Image
[ Estimated read time: 9 minutes ] A familiar quote for witnesses to the dirge of lukewarm religion. The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting.  It has been found difficult; and left untried. ― G.K. Chesterton, What's Wrong with the World According to the enlightened, it is essential that we Catholics update our thinking so that we can live without guilt or shame or any of those nasty habits of mind that non-Catholics think we like to punish others with.  After all, God accepts us just as we are—right?  Despite the biblical record and apostolic teaching, the "progressive" way asserts that there is little or no need to change or grow in holiness or to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). Holiness, for some, is a bad word, an outmoded concept. For the progressive religionist, spiritual success is measured by involvement in social justice projects that make one feel good about oneself. In contrast to heterodox ways of thinking, th...

The Culture of Death Is Dying: An Apocalypse

Image
[ Estimated Read Time 5 minutes ] Those attempting to usher in a new dark age are failing.  They have for a time duped many others into drinking the poison of entitlement and self righteousness.  Their vision of society is a spiritual slum filled with angry and lazy people who shun hard work and envy those who prosper.  Those who abhor reality and who hate themselves make life burdensome by their contempt and lack of mercy toward people of goodwill.  No one wants to live in their slum. Psalm 43 |  Give sentence with me, O God, and defend my cause against the ungodly people; O deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.  For thou art the God of my strength; why hast thou put me from thee? and why go I so heavily, while the enemy oppresseth me?  O send out thy light and thy truth, that they may lead me, and bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling.  And that I may go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness; and upo...

Reasons To Doubt Thomas (Rosica): Part Three

Image
OSV News | Paul Haring At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst.  Aristotle Take no delight in the fall of any man. Like anyone in a society conformed to the rule of law—well, western law at least—Fr. Rosica is innocent until proven guilty. Fr. Rosica's credibility, however, is pretty much shot, in large part due to hubris. The following links are to articles that capture the downward trajectory of Fr. On Protests And Politics

Image
Necessary Questions & Common Sense Responses In a free society governed by the rule of law: Is it wrong to question and reject a nation's (military) actions? No, it is not wrong to judge and to publicly condemn the actions of any nation or government provided the challenge to said actions is conducted in a peaceful and respectful manner. Constructive criticism is essential to the workings of the state. The actions of any government may be questioned and rejected if those actions are found to be unjust by a reasonable moral standard. See:  https://catholicism.org/catholic-teaching-just-war.html No one behaving in a rational and orderly way may be restrained or indicted for engaging in a peaceful and respectful protest. No law-abiding protestor should be compelled to abandon a cause if it be a reasonable and objectively just cause. Given a natural right to promote justice, no government may impede the right of citizens to associate in the exercise of said right. Any inconven...

What The World Needs Now Is...

Image
After truth, love is probably the most abused word in the English language. Well, maybe it's a tie between those two words for the title of 'Word Most Wounded'. When truth suffers, so also love. What is truth? Pontius Pilate asked Jesus this question as Jesus stood before him falsely accused. What Pontius Pilate didn't realize is that the answer to his question stood right before his eyes. Anagram St John 18:38 Pontius Pilate puts Jesus on trial and asks him, "Quid est veritas?" "What is truth?" Jesus does not respond, nor does he need to speak. He is the Eternal Word, the Logos. The question already contains the answer. "Est vir qui adest." "It is the man who stands (is) before you." The Answer was standing right in front of Pontius Pilate.  Ordinariate Treasure TwitterX Most faithful Catholics are more than likely aware that the word 'truth' can mean anything you want it to nowadays; love, too. Consequently, both words h...

Creeds: A Meditation

Image
A reasonable person would be right to assert that, though God may be mentioned here and there in secular constitutions and charters, without lively Christian populations national charters alone are not capable of effecting the civilisation of societies. Constitutions require people of faith - Christian Faith - to realize the grand ideas rehearsed in documents heralding the supremacy of Almighty God. Secularists - among them social radicals and the indifferent - engage only to the degree that their own self interests are able to dominate. By contrast, people of conscience model charity and justice. Without a lived Christian Faith to sustain and vivify a country, the body politic withers. Australia An Act to constitute the Commonwealth of Australia WHEREAS the people of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and Tasmania, humbly relying on the blessing of Almighty God , have agreed to unite in one indissoluble Federal Commonwealth under the Crown of the United Kingdom of...

Who hath made heaven and earth. Responsory based on  Psalm 140 (139) V. They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips. R. Rescue me, O Lord, from evildoers. V. Keep me safe, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet. R. Keep me safe, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked. V. The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. R. Keep me safe, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked. V. All The Rage

Image
Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?   Feral is an apt term to describe the maniacal and calculating behavior of individuals who often arm themselves with willing though often unsuspecting accomplices to terrorize others. Feral - physically aggressive and psychologically manipulative. The feral (person) habitually engage(s) in: physical intimidation cancellation; people deemed a threat are ostracized, boycotted or shunned deplatforming, which is a threat to free speech gaslighting - "People who engage in gaslighting may do so for a variety of reasons. They may be trying to gain control over the victim or trying to avoid accountability for their own actions, mistakes, insecurities, and feelings. An underlying mental health condition, like narcissistic personality disorder, may also play a part." - E. Feldman What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us? -   Romans 8:31 In many western societies, grade school and college teachers are espe...

O Saviour of The World: a brief meditation on a memorial acclamation

Image
Among the three memorial acclamations fixed in Divine Worship: the Missal, the third acclamation - O Saviour of the world - is frequently heard in Ordinariate communities. Arguably, it is the most patrimonial of the acclamations. The third acclamation is likely unfamiliar to most diocesan Catholics who visit Ordinariate communities. It is not included in the Novus Ordo Missae. The third acclamation is a statement of fact. Our redemption is wrought in and through Jesus Christ. Our hope and salvation is made known to us in the Mass. Acknowledging our dependency upon the Lord, we humbly plead with Him to rescue us and sustain us. The third acclamation invites the worshipper into a solemn intimacy of trust in the Lord. O Saviour of the world, who by thy Cross and precious Blood hast redeemed us: save us and help us, we humbly beseech thee, O Lord. The crib rests in the shadow of the Cross. This Christmas, when so many of the brethren are suffering at the hands of the many Herods of this w...

TRUE PARTICIPATION IN THE MASS

"I was gathered into the offering of the Son to the Father. I participated in the self-offering of God today."

FEATURED SCRIPTURE | Revelation 7:9-12

AFTER this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels stood round the throne and round the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.”

THE GOLDEN ARROW

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.
