Statue Project: Backdrop and Pedestal.

Image
The Fellowship of Blessed John Henry Newman, Victoria, BC, has very recently added a sumptuous backdrop and restored pedestal for our statue of Our Lady of Walsingham in the Blessed John Henry Newman Chapel, just in time for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. The statue has been with the Fellowship for some time. It was carved by  ALBL Oberammergau , Germany. The stunning backdrop fabric was acquired from Watts & Co., London (UK) by Mrs. Noella Birch at the recommendation of Monsignor Wilkinson, and the finishing work was completed by Mrs. Jane Morris. The pedestal was purchased by Mrs. Birch from a shop in Duncan, BC. Restoration work was completed two days ago by yours truly. Click on Images to Enlarge L-to-R: Very Rev. Fr. Who and what is an Instituted Acolyte?

The Ministry of Instituted Acolyte In September of 2017, yours truly and one other man from the Roman Catholic  Fellowship of Blessed John Henry Newman , the Ordinariate community in Victoria, were installed in the Ministry of Acolyte by the Bishop of the North American Ordinariate, His Excellency Steven J. Lopes. The three day event based in Houston, Texas, was the second of its kind in as many years. Last year, some 60 men were instituted as acolytes. The ministry of the Instituted Acolyte fully realizes Bl. Pope Paul VI's teaching in his motu proprio Ministeria Quaedam (1972) regarding the appropriate roles of the laity in the Sacred Liturgy. The institution of acolytes in Houston coincided with the patronal feast of The Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter. Some 30 men from across North America were installed in the ministry of acolyte on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. And what a feast! Texas hospitality is legendary, and the host parish did n

A word to Ordinary Form Parish Music Directors... .

... and what those same Ordinary Form (diocesan) music directors can learn from the experience of a typical Ordinariate community . From the Catholic Herald (Wednesday, 20 Dec 2017), in part: http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/commentandblogs/2017/12/20/young-people-increasingly-attracted-to-gregorian-chant/ Catholic Church music directors throughout the country recognised “that we should give young people what they want,” he said. “They want a sense of beauty. They want a sense of mystery.” (Scott) Turkington discovered that Gregorian chant was an effective tool in teaching children the importance of sacred music in the church. “If you give Gregorian chant to kids, they love it,” Turkington said. [Having taught chant to college students and public school choirs at the high school and middle school levels for the past 30 years, I concur.] ["..."] “There’s been a flowering of publication of English-language versions of Gregorian melodies and changes t

Two new Ordinariate Priests in Scotland

The official web page of the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham has the following great news! Two former Anglicans have been ordained as Catholic priests to serve the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham in Scotland, doubling the number of Ordinariate priests in Scotland. Father Simon Beveridge who lives near Whithorn in Dumfries and Galloway was ordained a priest in Whithorn in Galloway by Bishop William Nolan on Thursday 14th December. Before being received into the Catholic Church Fr Simon served as a Vicar in the Church of England from 1987 before becoming a Royal Navy Chaplain in 1993 serving with the Commando Royal Marines and latterly as Regional Navy Chaplain (North), based at Faslane on the Clyde. [...] Father Cameron Macdonald , who lives in Nairn, near Inverness, was ordained in the Scottish Episcopal Church in 1990 and served at St Columba's in Nairn before becoming an Army chaplain in 1995. A New Beginning

This Blog was preceded by a six month period of abstinence. That is, an absence from blogging. A previous blog had run its course. This new journal marks a return with an adjusted focus. The blogger has been adjusted and sees things with a healthier perspective. This blog will focus on the three transcendentals — truth, goodness and beauty — as found in and through Divine Worship, the Mass of the Ordinariate. For those unfamiliar with Divine Worship, it is enough to point you in the direction of the Mother Ship, or HQ as it is sometimes known: The Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter. Questions?  Visit the following link:  https://ordinariate.net/about It should be said, right at the outset, that this blog does not pretend to be the final authority on Divine Worship, nor the Ordinariate nor even the Catholic Faith. Rather this blogger intends to draw attention to the True, the Good and Beautiful that is found in the Ordinariate, the wonderful oasis established by Pope B
