Quotes for the End of June

Socialization makes the individual want to do what he has to do; the family is the agency to which society entrusts this complex and delicate task. - Christopher Lasch He who created us without our help will not save us without our consent. - Saint Augustine A 2016 international survey of university counselling centres revealed 50 per cent of university students sought help for feelings of anxiety and 41 per cent for depression. Suicide rates are also increasing. The number of teenage girls in the U.S. who died by suicide nearly doubled between 2000 and 2015. The mental health statistics for Canadian youth are similarly grim. In 2003, 24 per cent of Canadians aged 15-30 self-reported that their mental health was either fair or poor (compared to very good or excellent). By 2019, that number had risen to 40 per cent.” The COVID-19 pandemic worsened the mental health of Canadian youths. In 2020, 58 per cent of Canadians aged 15-24 reported fair or poor mental health and nearly one in fou

Measuring the Synod and the Instrumentum Laboris

READ TIME: 11 minutes The fruit for which we ask at the next Assembly is that the Spirit inspire the Church’s walking together as the People of God in fidelity to the mission that the Lord has entrusted to it. Indeed, the purpose of the synodal process “is not to produce documents, but to open horizons of hope for the fulfilment of the Church’s mission” (DCS, 6). - 3. Instrumentum Laboris A lot of highly intelligent people have invested a great deal of time and effort in an attempt to discern the call of the Holy Spirit in and to the contemporary Church during the past few years, the years of the Synod On Synodality, and since the 1970s, each suggesting - or rather, each of the so-called "Spirit-led" among those intelligent folk, claiming - that they possess some unique insight into the Spirit's intent. An ever growing number of contradictory positions and often sterile agendas are being promoted among believers. Diversity and inclusivity, for all their virtue, are produc

Bishop Michael Olson of the Diocese of Fort Worth in a statement shared on YouTube denied that he abused his authority when investigating a prioress of a Carmelite monastery and alleged that she admitted, on five separate occasions, that she had broken her vow of chastity.  The dispute between the monastery and the diocese began in April when Olson launched a canonical investigation into an alleged sexual affair between the monastery’s prioress, Reverend Mother Teresa Gerlach, and an unnamed priest from outside the diocese. - CNA Tyler Arnold The Bishop versus the Prioress Following the investigation, the Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity and Gerlach filed a $1 million lawsuit against the bishop and the diocese. The lawsuit alleged that in the course of the diocese’s investigation into Gerlach’s conduct, the bishop demanded access to phones and computers and subjected the nuns to lengthy questioning in late April. The bishop has confiscated computers belonging to the nuns. The bishop

Trinitytidings

The Trinity is a communio personarum , a “communion of persons.” In God, the problem of unity and diversity is overcome in a way man will never achieve: one Godhead, yet three Persons. Amid all the sophisticated distinctions of Trinitarian and Christological theology, the mystery of “begettings” and “processions” can be summarized in a few words: God loves. God loves with the fullness of his Being. And because love necessarily involves another, God’s love gives life: the Father gives life to the Son, who is as truly and eternally and perfectly God as the Father. And the Son, the object of the Father’s love, loves eternally, so that where their loves join proceeds the Spirit, who proceeds from the love of “the Father and the Son.” - John Grondelski So there is One Father, not Three Fathers; one Son, not Three Sons; One Holy Ghost, not Three Holy Ghosts. And in this Trinity none is afore or after Other, None is greater or less than Another, but the whole Three Persons are Co-eternal to
