I doubt not then but innocence shall make false accusation blush, and tyranny tremble at patience.

Reasons To Doubt Thomas (Rosica): Part Three

OSV News | Paul Haring

At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst. Aristotle

Take no delight in the fall of any man.

Like anyone in a society conformed to the rule of law—well, western law at least—Fr. Rosica is innocent until proven guilty. Fr. Rosica's credibility, however, is pretty much shot, in large part due to hubris. The following links are to articles that capture the downward trajectory of Fr. Rosica's life.

Given his many acts of plagiarism and his misguided attempts to pressure a Canadian blogger into silence for calling out Fr. Rosica's misdoings, one could be forgiven for concluding that Fr. Rosica has been neither a kind man nor an honest man. Fr. Rosica should not be surprised if his priestly faculties are permanently removed and jailed if he is found guilty of the crimes of which he is accused.
The blogger's site (linked above) experienced a significant surge in visitors during and after Fr. Rosica's attempt to intimidate the blogger into silence. The lawsuit that Fr. Rosica threatened against the blogger never came to pass.

Let us pray for Fr. Rosica and the man who has accused Fr. Rosica of sexual assault. If Fr. Rosica is found guilty as charged, or found innocent, whether that is by a secular court of law or a church court, may he take the opportunity to place himself before God and live the rest of his days as we all should—in conformity to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

May these circumstances give us reason to pause and pray. A serious examination of one's conscience at the end of one's day before retiring for the night is necessary if we hope to avoid surrendering to temptation and falling into serious sin.

Recall the seven deadly sins. They are deadly because they infect, pollute and kill the soul.
  1. Gula (gluttony)
  2. Luxuria/Fornicatio (lust, fornication)
  3. Avaritia (greed)
  4. Tristitia (sorrow/despair/despondency)
  5. Ira (wrath)
  6. Acedia (sloth)
  7. Vanagloria (vainglory), Superbia (pride, hubris)
Liars - those making false accusations and those impenitent priests attempting to avoid prosecution for crimes - must be held accountable. Victims - priests wrongly accused and the vulnerable people who have suffered abuse - must receive a defence. Sadly, there have been priests who have been wrongly accused of abuse, and their lives have been made hellish. What of those women who have claimed abuse but who have been ignored? Those, for example, who have accused the ex-Jesuit Marko Rupnik of abuse. For obvious reasons, the facts must be confronted.

A priest wrongly accused of abuse can face public humiliation, suspension or removal from ministry, and even criminal charges. Even if the charges are eventually dropped, the damage can be lasting. The emotional toll can be immense, and rebuilding trust within the community can be long and challenging. Barbieri Law

We, as Catholics, suffer together. No one should stand alone. We look upon the crucifix and are reminded of the Innocent One, Jesus Christ, Who gave His life for our salvation. Those who love Jesus keep His commands. Mercy and fairness require the truth be observed for the sake of the salvation of souls.

Even in the darkest nights, the Lord raises up men and women who refuse to give up, who persevere in doing good, who protect the vulnerable and open pathways to reconciliation. The memory of the saints, righteous people and the oft-forgotten peacemakers, show us that grace does not magically eliminate conflict, but instead it inspires active resistance to evil and an astonishing creativity in doing good” (paragraph 211).
