New Ordinary For Southern Cross

https://zenit.org/articles/australia-pope-appoints-new-head-of-personal-ordinariate/ Pope Francis appointed Canadian priest Fr Carl Reid the second Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross on 26 March – a role he will take up in August. Pope Francis has also accepted the resignation of Msgr Harry Entwistle, who has served as leader of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross since it was established in 2012. Now that the cat is out of the proverbial bag, this blogger is free to expand on the previous blog post. Fr. Carl has been a tireless worker in the portion of the vineyard of the Lord known as Canada, more specifically Victoria, BC, and surrounding area. The Very Reverend Fr. Carl Reid, VF, is the Dean of the Canadian Ordinariate (Deanery of Saint John the Baptist). Fr. Carl edited the lovely and necessary Saint Peter Gradual (Minor Propers and other important chants for Divine Worship) and has, with Monsignor Wilkin

Readers will have to wait until the (good) news is first made public by Rome then reported here. Stay tuned!

Agatho via Athanasius (Schneider) on Heretical Popes

Image
Bishop Schneider (Auxiliary, Astana, Kazakhstan) : Pope Saint Agatho did not let himself be confused and shaken by the lamentable behavior of his predecessor Honorius I, who helped to spread heresy. In spite of this, Pope Agatho kept his supernatural view of the inerrancy of the See of Peter in teaching the Faith, as he wrote to the Emperors in Constantinople: “This is the rule of the true faith, which this spiritual mother of your most tranquil empire, the Apostolic Church of Christ (the See of Rome), has both in prosperity and in adversity always held and defended with energy; which, it will be proved, by the grace of Almighty God, has never erred from the path of the apostolic tradition, nor has she been depraved by yielding to heretical innovations, but from the beginning she has received the Christian faith from her founders, the princes of the Apostles of Christ, and remains undefiled unto the end, according to the divine promise of the Lord and Savior himself, which h

The Rail: Encountering the Holy

https://www.thecatholicthing.org/2019/03/16/the-communion-rail-and-complementarity/ The opening lines from an article by Fr. Jerry J. Pokorsky. Read more at the link above. The traditional Communion rail has functional and sacramental purposes. It distinguishes the sanctuary from the nave and the priest from the people. The architectural logic of the Communion rail symbolizes the sacred (“set apart”) and ministerial priesthood with the priest offering Mass as a mediator in Christ the Head. The priest, as male, images Jesus as the Divine Bridegroom in union with His beloved Church. And he feeds the Bride of Christ at the Communion rail, from the “table of the Lord.” Bride and Bridegroom are distinct but never divorced. The Communion rail accentuates the sanctuary as the “Holy of Holies” hearkening back to Jewish worship. The Mosaic Law dictates the preparations of an Old Testament priest – cleanliness, vestments, offerings – for entry into the “Holy of Holies.” (Lev. 16

The Christian Worldview as described by Fr. Schall

Image
Lucas Cranach the Elder - The Last Judgment https://www.crisismagazine.com/2019/what-makes-the-christian-worldview-different-from-the-rest Christianity and Nature (T)he Christian worldview (...) has its roots in Israel. God and the world are separated. God had no need of a cosmos; creation itself was the result of a free plan to create something besides his Trinitarian life. Within this plan, God’s purpose was to associate in his inner, eternal life not with other created “gods” but with spiritual and intelligent corporeal beings. The physical cosmos was designed to support this intention. Man, as a race of rational, free beings, was given dominion over the earth. Much of modern science and technology traces itself back to a secular form of individualism, but this contradicts the Christian view. God’s grant of dominion meant that man was to discover and use what nature had provided him over the ages. The world was not created perfectly so that everything would be prov

Controversial Cardinal Danneels Dies

Cardinal Danneels has died. Many tradition-minded Catholics need little or no reminder of his influence and at times questionable witness to the Gospel. In a 2015 authorized biography of the cardinal, Danneels was listed as being part of a group of cardinals who coordinated efforts ahead of the conclave that elected Pope Francis. - CNA Accused of participating in a movement to elect then Cardinal Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, a shameful politicization of the Petrine Ministry (and the election process) if the accusations are true, Cardinal Danneels' behaviour appeared to resemble that of secular leaders more than a member of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, particularly with regards to social issues. At times, his participation in the public life of his native country appeared to follow a more live-and-let-live approach than a clear, confident and charitable witness calling people to embrace the liberating message of the Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ. As leader of th

St Gregory Prayer Book

Image
- from the Amazon site. "The St Gregory's Prayer Book is a beautifully produced leatherette prayer book compiled by the Ordinariates established by Pope Benedict XVI and drawing on the riches of the Anglican liturgical heritage and the exquisite Cranmerian language of the Book of Common Prayer to further enrich the panoply of Catholic liturgy and devotion. "The text includes ancient English collects, introits and hymns available together for the first time for the whole Church as approved examples of Catholic liturgy. In addition to the Liturgical texts, classic translations of traditional prayers and devotions for use in the Church and in the home have been lovingly compiled and edited in St Gregory's Prayer Book. "This lovely book of prayers is user friendly and accessible to Catholic faithful with a love of beautiful language and in search for supplementary resources for their prayer life that are both new and at the same time respectful of Ch

A Glorious Option

Our Lady of Walsingham Cathedral Thanks be to God for the Personal Ordinariates! I am thankful, as are others, that there is an Ordinariate presence here,  and that Tradition-minded Catholics are able to find refuge among former Anglicans who truly love the Eucharistic Lord and who seek to "worship God in the beauty of holiness" (Psalm 96:9) in the Catholic Church established by Jesus Christ. It is especially relevant that, during these unsettling times, believers may enjoy a haven of right liturgy where they can find Jesus Christ reverently worshiped, the unvarnished truth (2Thess 2:15) heralded by the Apostles proclaimed, biblical wisdom for daily living is made available to the congregation of believers, and authentic hospitality - characteristic of the Anglican Patrimony - is practiced. An oasis exists for those who cherish the Holy Eucharist and who understand, or are willing to learn, that the Mass is Christ Present among us. That oasis is Divine Worship

A Timely Lenten Meditation by Fr. De Souza

Snippets from an article at The National Post: https://nationalpost.com/opinion/father-raymond-j-de-souza-father-toms-plagiarism-was-shocking-but-he-is-more-than-his-failing Fr. Tom and I have found ourselves on different sides often enough. He has applied his prodigious gifts to promoting the idea that Pope Francis represents an exhilarating break from Catholic tradition. I find such breaks alarming, so we have largely gone our separate ways lately. But it was not so under St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI, where Fr. Tom and I happily collaborated on occasion. I expect that will be the case in the future, or at least I hope it will be. The current pontificate is proving exhausting for all concerned, as the powers-that-be in Rome lash out at perceived enemies as they lurch from crisis to crisis. I am eager for these internecine battles to be set aside so we can get on with the work of evangelization. [...] (I) found the news of Fr. Tom’s plagiarism tragic and a b
