WORDS TO THE WHYS

In an age of artificial intelligence, too many of our schools and colleges are producing artificial stupidity. Thomas Sowell

Praise God For Beautiful (New) Churches

Laudate Deum propter aedificia pulchra!

Let's draw attention to a couple of projects that are worthy of note.

1. Incarnation Catholic Church, Orlando, Florida.

A project in the works since a couple of fires destroyed the former church, the new building promises to be a fitting temple for the worship of Almighty God.

2. The (New) Cathedral of Our Lady Of Walsingham, Houston, Texas.

A very handsome new building will replace the beloved neo-gothic structure that has served for a decade as the cathedral for the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter.

- from the Cathedral website:

The parish of Our Lady of Walsingham, established in 1984 under the Pastoral Provision of  St. John Paul II, was the first Catholic parish in the United States dedicated to Our Lady under this title and was a parish of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston until 2012.

The Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter was established on January 1, 2012 through the Apostolic Constitution, Anglicanorum coetibus, by Pope Benedict XVI, to secure a permanent place for our Patrimony. The parish was named as the Principal Church of the Ordinariate at the time and Msgr. Jeffrey N. Steenson was chosen by the Holy See as the first ordinary. In February of 2016, the church was officially designated a Cathedral when Bishop Steven J. Lopes was ordained as the first bishop of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter.

As one would expect, the architectural firm responsible for these entirely credible designs, Cosmati Architects,  has a website and record that confirms their ethos, i.e., that they are "(d)edicated to the renewal of Beauty through the practice of Architecture in the Western Classical Tradition."

“What does your temple reveal about the God/god you worship and the faith you follow?” A shopping mall’s design emphasizes comfort, convenience, and casualness. A genuine Catholic temple conveys something far deeper. It reflects the transcendentals—truth, goodness, and beauty. The living God is worshipped therein, the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who, with Jesus and the Holy Ghost, is the Most Holy Trinity: One God in Three Persons. The Catholic temple embodies the Faith, a tabernacle for the Real Presence, whereas the shopping mall resembles more a social club and concert hall.

The quiet renewal continues apace.

POPE LEO XIV Magnifica Humanitas

Even in the darkest nights, the Lord raises up men and women who refuse to give up, who persevere in doing good, who protect the vulnerable and open pathways to reconciliation. The memory of the saints, righteous people and the oft-forgotten peacemakers, show us that grace does not magically eliminate conflict, but instead it inspires active resistance to evil and an astonishing creativity in doing good (paragraph 211).

I doubt not then but innocence shall make false accusation blush, and tyranny tremble at patience.

SENECA

No tree becomes rooted and sturdy unless many a wind assails it. For by its very tossing it tightens its grip and plants its roots more securely; the fragile trees are those that have grown in a sunny valley.
