WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

I doubt not then but innocence shall make false accusation blush, and tyranny tremble at patience.

Just for Kicks

When fortune's hand doth turn so cruelly as to bid us remember.

Lamentation

This we know: hard working Canadian men and women cannot afford housing. In a country blessed with abundance, with vast mineral resources, oil sands, fertile prairies and recovering fisheries, why is it that food and fuel costs are skyrocketing? Young people, having been subjected to one social experiment after another, are melting down in dangerous ways - the horrific Tumbler Ridge shooting should be a sobering reminder of the increasing disintegration and deepening despair. And even a cursory review of local news sites reveals an astonishing level of foreign interference in the national and regional economies, yet deals continue to be signed that give additional access to bad actors.

Globalist-socialist-anything-but-noblest?

Prime Minister Mark Carney, weekly Mass-goer, successful international banker, inherited the quagmire manufactured by Justin the Apostate. Sadly, it appears that PM Carney has greased the downward trend and is incapable of representing the statistics with any kind of accuracy. In a nutshell, he claims the economy is doing well. The facts say otherwise.

Enabling Corruption

That enough Canadians, knowing that the (not so) Liberal Party of Canada was and is by any rational standard incompetent and corrupt, has repeatedly voted in that party defies comprehension. And yes - too many Catholic Canadians - or is that Canadian Catholics? - are to blame for voting for politicians that promote the culture of death and social tyranny. Shame on them!

The same Liberal Party, aided by the national (not so) New (and not so) Democratic Party, has made Canada into a bit of an international laughingstock, to put it mildly. There is little to laugh about, however, given the damage done. Simply put, far-left and left-of-centre parties are responsible for a decade and more of fiscal nonsense that has led to massive debt and political interference in families. Parents and guardians are being stripped of their natural right to raise their children based on their own beliefs because those beliefs clash with the agenda promoted by government and academician social engineers.

And so this is Canada.

Workplaces and education services are hampered by irrational ideologies. Contrary to claims that entities such as human rights tribunals serve to protect inalienable rights, the opposite is commonly true. Inhumane decisions that infringe on fundamental human rights are routinely imposed on individuals who defy a deranged status quo. Given the political orientations of tribunal members and they, lacking a rational basis for decisions, a charge of bias and misuse of power against such tribunals should be enacted at the very least to correct injustice. More appropriately, disband those instruments that have no place in any society that values freedom of speech. If speech is offensive to some, then the appropriate way to respond is by issuing a counter argument. More speech, not censorship. When a society relies on censorship rather than informed critical thinking, it is already in steep decline. Resorting to coercion that attempts to strip conscientious objectors of their fundamental human dignity and means of living is unacceptable in any kind of a free society.

Critical thinking has been replaced with weaponized ignorance. And so, parents with any common sense are homeschooling their children. Teenagers and twenty-something men and women, concerned about carrying decades of student debt, are choosing trade schools over universities.

Safe Space?

Dangerous criminals are given day passes and paroled while awaiting trial, free to commit additional atrocities against women and children.

A young woman known by this blogger, Mina, who works as a counter clerk at a convenience store, moved to Canada from Mumbai about three years ago. She has an undergraduate degree and a masters degree in business from an Indian university and has completed additional course work at a local college. Her visas are in order and yet applications to enable her to work as a professional in her field appear to fall on deaf ears.

Legal immigrants are too often stuck in limbo, unable to receive professional accreditation, and Canadian citizens face challenges getting medical care and making ends meet, while others—those with expired visas or false claims—remain in the country illegally, draining financial resources and social services.

A friend of this blogger recently spent three days in an emergency wing corridor awaiting a bed, which is hardly a rare event these days. Hospitals are severely hampered by a lack of staff. Hospital staff are run off their feet trying to cope with shortfalls of one kind or another. Citizens wait years on lists to acquire a personal physician. Such is the legacy of Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada.

The current Liberal Federal Government has, through lawfare, repeatedly violated the fundamental human right to freedom of speech. Not surprisingly, given a lack of a moral compass, it also pushes same-day euthanasia (MAiD) over the ethical and humane treatment of patients. Canada, a nation of approximately 39.19 million people, is now second for the number of state-sanctioned murders compared to all other countries with similar policies.

Health Canada reported that 76,475 Canadians had died under MAID as of December 31, 2024. New cases were arriving at roughly 45 per day, with 2024 alone recording 16,499 deaths. Even if approvals have steadied in recent months, the government’s own trajectory suggests the 100,000th death could come in early June (2026), weeks before the 10th anniversary of Bill C-14, which first legalized doctor-assisted suicide. March 2, 2026 PM

"New cases were arriving at roughly 45 per day, with 2024 alone recording 16,499 deaths." Let those numbers sink in for a moment.

The Liberal Party has a well documented history of corruption and mismanagement, and continues to spend tens of millions of dollars on highly questionable projects in foreign countries. And yet - Canadians still vote for them. Apparently, tolerance for cultural elitism, graft and other forms of corruption is a Canadian value or virtue - the "virtue" of indifference and material cooperation with sin.

Whilst, the corporate scribes do trifle, even as Ottawa and all of Canada be consumed by fire.

Alternative

Thankfully, official Catholic media and scholarly (professional and amateur) social media have taken up the responsibility to report on societal news as much as they communicate about church-related issues. The pushback from the secular media is to attempt to demonize religious news organizations and individuals as extreme, right wing, and therefore irrelevant or dangerous. The level of bigotry one routinely finds in the secular press is astonishing.

The secular media have become irrelevant because of their selective and poorly informed reporting. The secular media, somewhat distracted by (drunk on?) power and politics, is struggling to recapture their vital role in society. That is, the accurate and timely dissemination of facts. They have allied themselves to political parties and profit making at the expense of access in an era when online forums offer a range of informed alternatives for people to consider.

Feeling the pressure from the changing landscape of information access and eager to stay profitable, secular corporate media have aligned themselves politically and socially in a bid to maintain relevance. They have invalidated their role as impartial communicators. They have become obstacles to societal improvement and stability. They have willingly abandoned the moral and professional standard of providers of facts free from interference. Their lack of moral judgement is evident by attempts to ban independent information providers whom they rather childishly attempt to characterize as dangerous to free speech. How ironic and dangerous is that?

POPE LEO XIV

The right to freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, religious freedom, and even the right to life are being restricted in the name of other so-called new rights, with the result that the very framework of human rights is losing its vitality and creating space for force and oppression. This occurs when each right becomes self-referential, and especially when it becomes disconnected from reality, nature, and truth.

In the wake of unverified analyses of residential school sites, and unsubstantiated claims, the secular corporate media has radicalized individuals responsible for attacks on Catholic churches across Canada. The media, therefore, deserves to be held accountable for the harm done to the cause of truth and reconciliation. Liberal radicals with agendas that obscure reality are no friends of those of us with native ancestry who are happily Catholic and concerned about facts and matters of justice.

Preach it!

The pulpit is mightier than the media sword. Parish fellowships can strengthen a commitment to formation in moral integrity. Guided by the Church's social teaching, formed in right judgement, and zealous for a just society, such groups can build neighbourhood associations or, at the very least, insinuate justice and charity into common discussions. Given the challenges to inalienable rights, it is prudent and right for parishes to foster groups fully informed by authentic Church teaching.

Guilds and fellowships are natural to Ordinariate communities. They align with the primary mission to evangelize and are sustained by preaching informed by Gospel-centric charisms that are necessarily countercultural in a way that supports and enhances the common good.

Secular media are showing just how fragile their share of the information market is by their attempts to demonize anyone or group that destabilizes their imagined hold on power. Consumers of the news can simply turn away from the tainted product they are offering. Back in the day, to avoid mind-numbing programming, we simply turned off our TVs. It's that easy.

Subversion of the status quo?

We can switch from the CBC and CTV, and other diminished news smiths, to reliable Catholic-run services. It's that easy. And yes - most of the positive options are provided by faithful Catholic Americans.

Let's bolster attempts to dislodge young people's attentions from influences that hinder critical thinking, and move them toward authentic intellectual and social engagement by: hosting events that require and foster authentic recreation, commitment, integrity and solidarity; supporting classical Catholic education (great books); teaching science and virtue for resilience; modelling gentlemanly and womanly behaviour.

There are many reliable Catholic sites available. For starters:

Since despotic secularism is not likely to end tomorrow, Catholics would do well to engage services that offer intelligent commentary to help resist propaganda.

POPE LEO XIV Magnifica Humanitas

Even in the darkest nights, the Lord raises up men and women who refuse to give up, who persevere in doing good, who protect the vulnerable and open pathways to reconciliation. The memory of the saints, righteous people and the oft-forgotten peacemakers, show us that grace does not magically eliminate conflict, but instead it inspires active resistance to evil and an astonishing creativity in doing good” (paragraph 211).

THOMAS SOWELL

It is bad enough that so many people believe things without any evidence. What is worse is that some people have no conception of evidence and regard facts as just someone else's opinion.

WORDS TO THE WHYS

Forsooth, when ignorance doth wear so bold a face, and folly struts with such unblushing pride, methinks the time hath come to cast off patience, and with a tongue that brooks no further slight, to bid these dolts depart, and find some other ear to plague with their unlettered prate! - Fidesius Justus

JASPER AARON MCWILLIAMS

On certain days, one must needs speak the naked truth and cry, 'Ye base and knavish scoundrels! How dare ye defile a righteous man? Raise your fists and fight with honor.' Then, deliver unto them such a drubbing as they shall crave mercy.
